September 11th – September 15th

Good Monday morning Dragons!

We have another exciting week of learning ahead of us.

Your child’s Catholic education is a shared responsibility between home, school and the church so it is important for good communication to exist between the 3 communities to ensure your child(ren)’s success. You as parents are especially vital to your child(ren)’s educational success and therefore we ask that you keep fluent communication between yourself and your child(ren)’s teacher (s) so we can foster the spiritual, academic, physical, social and emotional growth and development while they are at St. Dominic Savio school.

Catholic Graduate Expectations

Catholic education views human life as an integration of body, mind, and spirit.  Rooted in this vision, Catholic education fosters the search for knowledge as a lifelong spiritual and academic quest. The expectations of Catholic graduates, therefore, are described not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but in terms of values, attitudes and actions.

The Catholic Graduate is expected to be:
A discerning believer
An effective communicator
A reflective, creative and holistic thinker
A self-directed, responsible, lifelong learner
A collaborative
A caring family member
A responsible citizen

This year staff and students will be focusing on developing and celebrating the Catholic Graduate Expectations.  Each month we will focus on a new expectation and recognize students who exemplify these traits.  Our focus for the month of September is A Caring Family Member. Ask your child to tell you what they do to show they are a caring family member.

Kiss and Drop/Playground

School will be in full swing this week as all our Kindergarten through Grade 8 students, as well as our newly registered students attend school.  A reminder to parents that only students are to be on the school grounds in the morning before the bell rings and throughout the day.  Please be aware that teachers are out supervising in the morning at 9:00 am and they need to be able to see students.  If parents are on the school grounds it makes it very difficult for teachers to see all the students under their watch.  Student safety is the single most important priority for all of our students here so please let your children enter the school grounds on their own. Also, when dropping your child(ren) off at the Kiss and Drop area, please DO NOT leave your car.  It is supposed to be a driveway where students get dropped off and walk themselves onto the playground.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

School Cash Online Start-Up Forms!

There are many mandatory school start-up forms posted in School Cash Online for you to complete for EACH child.  Thank you to all families who have already completed the forms online.  Just a reminder that these forms must be completed by  Friday, September 15th!  If you are NOT registered for School Cash Online please sign up:  School-Cash-Online-Register-Login-Instructions

Meet the Staff

We hope you can join us this Thursday, September 14th for Meet the Staff.  The event will be held outside (weather permitting) around the back of the school.  It is an informal social event which gives your child an opportunity to introduce you to his/her teacher. All teachers will be outside waiting to say hello. Food trucks will also be on site if you would like to purchase a bite to eat or a treat.   We are looking for a few High School Students interested in gaining a few volunteer hours on September 14th.  If you have a high school student who is available to help on September 14th, please email: Angela.Carroll@wcdsb.ca.

Early Pick-Up

If you need to pick up your child prior to the end of the school day, 3:45 p.m.,
please send a note with your child in their agenda, advising the teacher when to
send him/her to the office. When you arrive, please buzz the office and enter to sign your child out.

Dragon Spirit Days Are Back:

Every Wednesday students and staff are invited to show their school spirit by wearing their St. Dominic spirit wear or green, white, or blackGo Dragons!!!!

Orange Shirt/National Truth and Reconciliation Day

National Truth and Reconciliation Day is on Saturday, September 30th.  This is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.  The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. At St. Dominic Savio School we will be encouraging students to wear their Orange Shirts on Friday, September 29th to show our awareness as a community.

Have a dynamic week, Dragons!

Week One Done!

Happy Friday St. Dominic Dragon Community!

Thank you for a great first week back at school.  It brings us great joy to see the students’ enthusiasm and excitement to be back together with their friends and teachers.  Thank you to our parents and staff who worked so hard to make this week such a success.  Our students are settling in quite nicely to the routines of school, full of smiles, energy, and excitement.

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to another great week of leaning next week!

One More Sleep Dragons!

Good morning, Dragon Community on this glorious Labour Day Monday!

Tomorrow is back to school and the staff of St. Dominic Savio School can’t wait to welcome you back.  We hope you are as excited as we are to be back together in our wonderful school.

A reminder that all students in grades 1 to 8 will meet their teacher at the back of the school on the paved area.  Other staff aside from teachers will also be walking around to help you get to your homeroom teacher so just ask someone if you are unsure of where to go.  We have a new grade 5 teacher, and her name is Ms. Zuk, so please be sure to welcome her to our school if you happen to pass by her.

A friendly reminder to our Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten students that tomorrow is NOT a regular school day for you.  Our Junior Kindergarten students and parents have scheduled interviews with the individual Kindergarten teachers and Senior Kindergarten Students have NO SCHOOL TOMORROW.  Instead, Senior Kindergarten students start on Wednesday, September 6th.

Mark Your Calendars Dragon Families

On Thursday, September 14th, we will be having a Back to School Meet the Staff from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Food Trucks will be on site for families who would like to purchase a treat or a meal.  This evening is an opportunity for you and your family to socialize with one another, meet your child(ren)’s teacher and meet other staff members who will be part of your child(ren)’s education. You are welcome to drop by anytime between 5 – 7 pm. Staff will be outside behind the school on the paved area so be sure to have your child(ren) bring you to their teacher and introduce you to him/her.

School Spirit Wear

On the evening of Meet the Staff, examples of school spirit wear will be available for you to look at and see and compare sizes. Spirit wear items will be available to purchase for your child online after our Meet the Staff evening.  We have some new items available so be sure to check out the products at the Spirit Wear table.

Important Reminders

  • Please ensure you have returned the necessary medication and forms for any medical perils (anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, etc.) to the office. We ask for two inhalers/epi-pens so that one is kept with the student and the second is kept at the office.
  • Please update the Student Plan of Care if your child(ren) had one last year. Make the necessary changes and send it back to us signed.  Please note, that the plan of care is for life-threatening conditions only.
  • Please complete the various forms available on School Cash Online for EACH of your children.  These forms are necessary for such things as Chromebook use, permission to walk to church for mass, picture taking etc…  You need to ensure that all forms, even the read-only ones, are put into your ‘cart’ prior to checkout and you should receive a ‘thank you’ message to know you have completed the forms successfully. Please make sure you have completed all back-to-school forms by Monday, September 18th. This start-up information is very important, and we appreciate you taking the time to complete this as soon as possible.  https://wcdsb.schoolcashonline.com/.
  • This week, student verification forms will be sent home for parents to review. Please complete/update your child’s information as carefully and as quickly as possible and return the form to your child’s teacher.  It is vitally important that we have up-to-date information on every child. If any of your personal contact information changes throughout the year (phone numbers, address, etc.), please contact the office to let Ms. Hayes or Ms. Luszczki know.

Have a glorious last day of your summer holidays Dragons.  See you tomorrow!
