Dragon Update – September 5-8, 2017
It is that time of year again where the pencils are sharpened and the nametags are placed on student desks. The time where students walk into their new classrooms filled with hope for the new school year! We are so excited to be part of the growth that we see each year with our students, and this year our Dragons will continue to soar to new heights! Please take the time to watch the video link that outlines many of the hopes and dreams of teachers and students starting a new school year!
Our Book of the year! Each year our school community chooses a book to introduce our students to and carry the message forward over the course of the year. The book that we have chosen this year is called, “Unstoppable Me!” by Wayne Dyer. The book teaches children how to hold on to the no-limit thinking that we are all born with, rather than just trying to ‘fit in.’ The books message teaches children how to learn to truly enjoy life and become unstoppable as they strive to attain their dreams. The 10 important lessons in this book include the value of taking risks, dealing with stress and anxiety, and learning to enjoy each moment. We will continue to infuse this unstoppable thinking throughout our year at St. Dominic’s.
Agendas: All students will receive an agenda that is to help them with their organization of the year and as a form of parent communication. We ask that parents pay $6.00 for the agenda to help cover the total cost. At the front of the agenda there is some very good information about responsibilities of being a student at St. Dominic School. Please review this with your son/daughter.
School Council: We would like to welcome new and returning parents to our St. Dominic School Council. We are excited for a great year ahead and remind you to join up for School Council. This is an opportunity to discuss and share ideas to help enhance our school community. Our first meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 19th at 6:15pm. If you are interested, a form was sent home in your first day package to sign up.
New look for our JK/SK yard! We are so excited to share that over the summer, our JK/SK yard has expanded! The fence has been moved to allow lots more room for the young ones to play and explore. We are certain that they will love the extra room to move!
Garden Enhancements: Thanks to a group of dedicated parents and teachers, our garden space is starting to take shape. Weeding and planting have helped create a beautiful landscape coming into our school entrance. In addition, gardens out back will be beautified very soon!
Pizza Days: We would like to continue with our pizza days this year. Our first delivery will take place on Monday, September 11th. For your child to receive pizza for the month of September, please ensure that you purchase through cash online. All purchases must be made by September 7th for your son/daughter to receive pizza for the month of September.
Meet the Teacher/School BBQ: We would love it if you could join us for our Meet the Teacher/School BBQ on Thursday September 28th. The classrooms will be open at 5:30 for you to visit your child’s classroom and meet their teacher for the year. At 6:15, we will enjoy a BBQ together as a community. There will be hot food items that will include a hot dog/hamburger, drink and treat combo. In addition to the BBQ, we will have lots of fun activities for the students to partake in. We hope you can join us!

Prayer for a New School Year
Lord Jesus, I ask for Your help as I begin this new school year. Allow me to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before me. Open my eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year brings. Open my heart and mind to new friends and new teachers. Give me a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with my studies and courage to accept new opportunities. Help me to be attentive to my teachers and let me experience Your presence in my new friends.
Jesus, inspire me to do my best this year.
