This time of year puts us all in the mindset of giving thanks for the blessings in our lives, and expressing appreciation for each other.  It allows us to view our world through a lens of gratitude. Giving thanks is a present topic at St. Dominic as it is our first Umbrella Skill that we are practicing as a school community.  We have been exploring the different ways gratitude can be expressed – through kindness, philanthropy, collaboration, self-reflection and meaningful connection. As families in Canada gather around dinner tables to celebrate this holiday, we will be giving thanks for our family, friends, good health and the wonderful St. Dominic community.  May you and your loved ones enjoy all of the warm blessings that this holiday has to offer.

Opening School Mass

We were blessed to have Father Steve join our school community to celebrate mass with us.  The theme of gratitude was present and we are reminded of people of faith that we all have something that we can be thankful for.  We want to continue to show our gratitude to St. Mark’s Parish who provide such great pastoral leadership and service to our school community throughout our year.

Due to the holiday Monday, Pizza Day will take place on Tuesday of this week.  Thank you for your continued support!

Food Drive – Oct 1 – 12th

Our food drive is still in full swing at St. Dominic.  We are hoping to collect more than 700 pounds of food. Thank you to everyone who has contributed thus far.  Keep bringing in the donations until Friday and help support families in our community that may be in need.

Spirit Wear is Back!

Don’t forget to order your spirit wear!  The online store will be open until Sunday October 14th.  Sample sizes are located in the front hallway by the office to try on if you like.  We can’t wait to see the spirit wear roaming the hallways of our school! Check out the link to the store below:

ECO News – Plastic Cutlery Free as of November 1st

Just another reminder that we will be going “plastic utensil free” as of November 1st!  The ECO Team is excited to take on this initiative. Please ensure that you speak to your children about packing the proper utensils to bring to school each day should they need them. Cutlery will not be supplied at the school for lunches. The ECO Team thanks you for your continued support to offer an environment that is sustainable for many years to come!

ESNS Lunch Program
The lunch program is back at St. Dominic School! If you’re tired of making lunches and are looking for some healthy options for your child, this is for you! Once again, Elementary School Nutrition Services (ESNS) will be offering lunch options to the students at St. Dominic’s every Thursday! This year they are partnering with Subway, Pita Pit, Boston Pizza and Holy Guacamole. Once a month on a Friday, they will also offer frozen yogurt and sorbet from Menchies! Simply go to to register your child. Go to “Schools” and select “St. Dominic Savio School”, then register your child(ren). A note was sent home with all of the details. Lunches will begin this Thursday, October 11th!

Wellness Tip of the Week

Encourage creativity.

All children need help to learn about their emotions and relationships. It is our job as adults to teach them these skills. Every child is different so we need to figure out what reaches each child individually. Look to what they truly enjoy to help them express themselves. Play, games, sports, art, writing, dance, horticulture, photography, music, and acting or role playing situations are great ways of helping kids learn to cope with difficult feelings and relationships. Creativity is a natural human way to learn and express ourselves. If your child has learned that feelings should be avoided, creativity can open them to emotions.

Math Matters!

Can you replace the question mark with a number?
