The Umbrella Project Theme for October: Empathy
The new theme for the Umbrella Project for October is Empathy. This is defined as the ability to share and understand the feelings of another. This is an important skill for students to develop. Please watch the video located at the link below on how to help your child(ren) develop empathy.
Major School Fundraiser
The excitement is continuing to build at St. Dominic for our Spook-A-Thon Fundraiser. A reminder that our Early Bird Draws began this week. Please continue to send in your Early Bird Ballots, as draws will continue to be made right up until Halloween!! Every $5 raised earns them a ballot into these draws. The Spook-a-thon will take place on Halloween – this Thursday October 31st, 2019. Student Council members will serve as our D.J.s and teachers will supervise the students. The students will be divided into 4 separate divisions and will dance during the following periods in the gym:

Please remember that Glow Sticks will be on sale that day for some added fun! Glow Sticks will cost $1.00 for 3 sticks. Please also remember to send in all Pledge Forms and money this Wednesday, October 30th! All of the Grand Prize Draws will be made and announced the following week! We can’t wait to have some Spooky Fun!!!
Halloween Dress-Up
On Thursday, October 31st all (Early Years/P/J/I) students will be invited to wear their costumes to school. Please be mindful of the costumes your child is wearing. Costumes cannot promote violence or have accessories or props that could be used as a weapon. As well, masks or suggestive costumes are not permitted including clown costumes.
Progress Reports and Student-Parent-Teacher Interviews
Progress reports will be coming home on Tuesday, November 5th. Please review with your child all of the wonderful attributes they are showcasing this year. Embedded into the progress report are next steps for each student to help them improve. Take a look – lots of suggestions to help move your child forward in their learning!
As well, there will be a letter going home tomorrow for parents to choose their preferred Interview time for Thursday, November 7th. The attached Parent Letter that will be going home on Monday to the eldest and only. Parents are to indicate their preferred interview time (4:00 – 6:30 or 6:30 – 9:00) and return the information on the bottom of the form with the eldest or only by Friday, Nov 1st. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the office.

21st Century Learning
St. Dominic is happy to welcome back a past graduate, Dominic, who is coming to the school to offer support and guidance to our current Dragons in 21st Century Learning. He helps our students with their projects and provides them support with using the school robots, 3D printers and Spheros! All students, including Dominic, are thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to immerse themselves in this technology!
