Cold Weather and Outdoor Breaks
With the recent return of some Arctic Weather, some parents have been asking about the school board policy with regards to Cold Weather and Outdoor Breaks. The following is an excerpt from the Board AP Policy APH008-00 Inclement Weather. It states:
“When schools are open, special consideration must be given to the safety and well-being of students when they are
outside at recess, lunch, or for other outdoor activities. The following temperatures (including wind chill) and actions
should be followed during winter months:
When the temperature is between -15°C and -19°C: students may remain outside for no longer than 20 minutes at
When temperatures are colder than -19°C: students must remain inside.
Temperatures and conditions vary across the Region. The following website shall be used to assess local conditions:
The temperature is monitored as closely as possible throughout the day to make sure we stay compliant with this policy. The website that we monitor is found at www.weather.ca. Please ensure that your child(ren) is/are coming to school dressed for the weather. Hats, mitts (multiple pairs), snow pants, boots and extra socks are necessary to keep everyone warm and dry!
Pancake Tuesday was a great day for our Dragons to prepare themselves for the season of Lent. All enjoyed a special treat of Pancakes served up by our Student Council and parent volunteers. Special Thanks goes out to them for making this special day possible! It started off with some special guests who joined us for breakfast, but ended being a fabulous day.
Deacon Philip joined us for our Ash Wednesday service. He challenged us to pray more, fast more and give more this Lent. Are the St. Dominic Dragons up to challenge? Absolutely!
