St. Dominic Is Going Litterless!
Great News Dragon Nation! As of Tuesday, February 25th, St. Dominic Savio is going completely litterless for our snacks and lunches! As part of our ongoing school improvement plan, we are reducing our eco footprint by reducing the amount of waste/litter here at school. What does this mean for you? We are asking that all lunches/snacks/drinks come in reusable containers that are taken home with the students every day. Any waste that is created will be brought home by the student to dispose of there. We are hoping that each family can have a plan and discussion with their kids as to how they can help us achieve our goal. Please see the attached letters for more information, and, as well, look for upcoming news/items in our weekly Dragon Update. Thanks for your support and consideration with regards to this initiative! Go Dragons!
Graduation and Kindergarten Photos
Please note that the Graduation Photos for the Grade 8s and Kindergarten have been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
Pancake Tuesday February 25th
Just a reminder about Pancake Tuesday coming up on February 25th. Pancakes will be served with syrup. Each class will be invited into the gym, where students will be served at different times of the day. The pancakes are a “treat” not a lunch replacement. Students who bring a lunch to school need to bring a lunch on this day as well. If your child has an allergy to pancake mix and syrup, please be sure to inform their classroom teacher to make alternate arrangements.
We are asking all students to please bring in a PLATE and UTENSILS for their pancakes. By reducing the amount of garbage, we can continue to be stewards of the environment. Please put your plate and utensils in a Ziploc!
We will be having an Ash Wednesday Liturgy on February 26th at 11AM. Deacon Philip will be presiding over this very important event which marks the beginning of Lent. All parents are welcome to attend.
Preparation for Lent
What can you do to prepare your family for Jesus’ Death and Resurrection? Along with going to mass on Sundays, Busted Halo is a great resource that is online that can be utilized to help explain Lent to your children. Please click on the link below to access.
Leaving Early in the Day:
If you wish to withdraw your child during a day, please make you send a note to the classroom teacher. Before your child can leave, you are asked to come to the main office and sign the “Student Sign In/Out” binder. Your son/daughter will then be called from class to meet you at the office. For your child to have the optimum learning experience, please keep sign-outs to a minimum.
Leaving School Property at Lunch:
If a student regularly goes home at lunch, parents will have completed a Lunch Arrangements form via School Cash Online.
Other students are permitted off school property at lunch time only under the following circumstances:
- If a parent/guardian is taking a student out at lunch time they are encouraged to give the classroom teacher a signed and dated note (or use the Student Agenda or Communications bag)
- Parents/guardians are asked to meet their child in the main office prior to leaving the school
- Before your child can leave, you are asked to come to the main office and sign the “Student Sign In/Out” binder. Your son/daughter will then be called from class to meet you at the office.
- If a parent/guardian gives permission for a student who normally stays at school for lunch to leave school property during the lunch hour, the student must give the classroom teacher a signed and dated note. They will also require to sign the “Student Sign In/Out” binder upon leaving and returning to school.
