Mandatory Self-Screening of Students:

Students must check for symptoms of illness every day before going to school. You can screen your child or yourself by taking the COVID-19 school and child care screening.

Umbrella Project:

Teach your child to reflect on their progress and take responsibility for themselves.

Self-reflection is a very helpful tool when it comes to autonomy and making good decisions.  It’s important that our children don’t get stuck doing things that don’t help or serve them, just because they want to feel independent. Taking responsibility for and reflecting on our own progress or learning is a great way to build confidence and help us recognize the choices we have along the way to improve.   At the end of the day we want our children to feel responsible for their learning.

Edutopia recently posted a great resource for this type of reflection and ownership over our efforts. This autonomy builder is a great tool to use for and self-created goals.

Some of my favorite reflection questions are:

  • Are my choices moving toward my goal?
  • Does my behaviour mirror what I want to accomplish?
  • Are my words and conversations positive/helpful in creating my success?

Until next time,

Dr. Jen, The Umbrella Project

Lenten Food Drive:

We’ve extended our Cereal box food donation for one more week as we don’t have enough cereal boxes to make it around the school. We need lots more so please keep them coming in.

Every Wednesday is SPIRIT DAY at Dragon Nation

Every week we celebrate our collective school spirit by wearing our school colours or spirit wear.

Our school colours are hunter green, burgundy and white!

Students going out for Lunch:

Just a reminder during lunch hour students are not to take trips to the variety store or go out for lunch as we are trying to make every effort to reduce the number of contacts outside of student class cohorts. When parental permission has been granted for students the expectation is students go directly to their own house, eat and return to school. Thank you for your support!

Please Ensure your Child(ren) have their Water Bottles!

Please check your child(rens) backpack daily to ensure that they have their water bottle.  The drinking feature on our fountains are closed because of COVID, but the bottle filler feature is operational.  Your children cannot go a whole day without drinking water.

If you need to purchase more water bottles, why not support our Green Initiative in the process:

Help St. Dominic Savio with our Green Initiative. With the purchase of reusable water bottles (through School Cash Online) we believe we are helping the earth by eliminating the amount of plastic deposited into the environment. These water bottles are $2.00 each.

Dropping students off on Victoria Street

Parents/Caregivers, please note that Victoria Street along side St. Dominic’s is a no parking or stopping zone. Please use the Kiss & Drop to drop off your children or park along Westforest Trail. A great alternative is to drop your children off a block away where there is little to no congestion and allow them to walk to school. We want to ensure student safety at all times and hopefully prevent parents from being ticketed as they stop on Victoria by bylaw.
