WCDSB Schools Closed on Tuesday, February 4, 2020

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) has announced that all of its members will be engaging in a one-day strike on Tuesday, February 4. This decision affects all Catholic district school boards in Ontario.

As a result of this strike, all Waterloo Catholic District School Board elementary and secondary schools will be closed on February 4.

All WCDSB extended day programs will be open for the day as usual (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for students currently registered in the program.

Secondary school credit courses, hair styling courses and culinary arts courses offered at the WCDSB’s St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Centres campuses will be cancelled on February 4. St. Louis guidance and correspondence services will also be unavailable on February 4. All other St. Louis programs will be open and running on their normal schedules.

Community use of schools activities will continue as scheduled.

OECTA’s previously announced administrative job actions will remain in effect before and after February 4.

As before, we remain hopeful the two sides will return to the bargaining table quickly and will come to a fair and respectful agreement that serves the best interests of our students.

Chris D’sousa Presentation

Our Dragons were very fortunate to have the opportunity to have Chris D’sousa present to them this past week. Chris challenged us  to answer our call to Catholic Leadership by taking time to understand the differences in us, to be authentic, and that this starts by loving ourselves. Thanks again to our Catholic School Council for supporting this fantastic presentation!

Winter Weather Reminders

Now that winter seems to have set in for good, parents need to be aware of a couple of reminders regarding the colder weather:

  • Please make sure to send in a couple of pairs of mittens and socks for your child(ren) as playing in the snow can make them pretty wet. These items do not dry out quickly and an extra set will help your child(ren) be more comfortable at recess.
  • Snow pants are a must if your child(ren) are going to be playing in the snow making forts or spending any time on the hills. Snow pants will help them stay warm and dry, and comfortable for the rest of the day. As well, winter boots are now a must to keep their feet warm and dry!

Wellness Tips for Students

It is very important for students to take some steps to take care of their health. There are many cases of students being sick and having to go home. Avoiding illness can be achieved by taking some small steps that would reduce one’s chances of becoming ill. Please read the article at the following link for some student wellness tips.
