The Umbrella Project Theme for November: Growth Mindset

The new Umbrella Project Theme for the month of November is Growth Mindset. Having a growth mindset (the belief that you are in control of your own ability, and can learn and improve) is the key to success. Yes, hard work, effort, and persistence are all important, but not as important as having that underlying belief that you are in control of your own destiny. The attached link is to an article that will help to help teach Growth Mindset to your child(ren).

Welcome to the Dragons’ Den

It is with excitement that we announce Ms. Erin Hutter will be joining the ranks of the Dragons’ Den here at St. Dominic. Ms. Hutter will be teaching Mrs. Johnston’s grade 4 class beginning on Tuesday of this week. We all wish Mrs. Johnston well as her and her family await the birth of their child. We also say Thank You to Ms. Coelho, who has stepped in to teach the class over the last little while. Please make sure to welcome Ms. Hutter if you have the chance!

Remembrance Day Observation

The St. Dominic CES community will be observing Remembrance Day tomorrow with as assembly at 10:40 AM. Please join us if you can for this very important observation.

Student of the Month Winners for Empathy

Congratulations goes out to our Student of the Month Winners for October. These students truly embodied the Umbrella Theme of Empathy and were recognized for their awesomeness in this area. Way to go Dragons!

Dance A Thon Wrap Up

A Huge Thank You goes out to the St. Dominic CES community for their support of our Spoooook A Thon. Our final fundraising tally surpassed $5026. Even though we did not reach our goal of $7000, we are very proud of everyone’s efforts. Students have already enjoyed the rewards they earned by raising this amount, such as the Board Game Afternoon and the Ice Cream Party for the top fundraising classes. Way to go Dragons!

Lunch with a Teacher Winners

The lucky students who were the winners of the Lunch with a Teacher certificates for our Dance A Thon enjoyed their prize on Friday. A special McDonald’s lunch was purchased for them that they were able to enjoy with the staff members who sponsored their lunch. A great time was had by all!

Early Years’ Party for the Letter P

Another celebration was underway on Friday as well. Our Early Years Division was busy enjoying a Party for the Letter P. All things “P” were celebrated with such snacks as pizza, pretzels, pineapple, pepperettes, porridge, and potato chips. What an awesome way to have fun while learning. Mr. R and Mr. S were able to join in on the fun as well. Can you name all of the “P” references in the picture below? “P”erhaps not!

Spooook A Thon Fundraiser

Our students and staff had a fantastic time at this year’s Spooook A Thon Fundraiser on Thursday. The dancing, costumes and excitement were fantastic, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Special Thank Yous go out to the School Council for helping organize and set up this awesome event. As well, our Student Council did an awesome job creating their vision for the gym and then making it come to life with their decorations. This group was also responsible for keeping the party hopping all day long as they spun the vinyl and led the dance sessions. Way to go Dragons! We are anxious to see how our fundraising efforts went. School Council will be counting all monies this week to see if we achieved our goal or not. Mr. Runstedler and Mr. Setler are anxiously awaiting to see if they are going to be taped to the wall! Please make sure to return all fundraiser money to the school as soon as possible in order for it to be included in the total!

Classroom Visits

As there is everyday, fantastic learning has been taking place throughout St. Dominic. From Science experiments, Skyped Presentations, Solar System projects, and 21st Century Learning to name but a few, here are some examples of the spectacular work being created by our Dragons.

Progress Reports and Student-Parent-Teacher Interviews

Progress reports will be coming home on Tuesday.  Please review with your child all of the wonderful attributes they are showcasing this year.  Embedded into the progress report are next steps for each student to help them improve. Take a look – lots of suggestions to help move your child forward in their learning! As well, there will be a letter going home tomorrow for parents to choose their preferred Interview time for Thursday, November 7th. The attached Parent Letter has gone home with the eldest and only. Parents are to indicate their preferred interview time  (4:00 – 6:00 or 6:30 – 9:00) and return the information on the bottom of the form if they have not done so already. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the office.
