Possible CUPE Strike

As many of you have heard, there is a possibility of a CUPE Strike starting on Monday, October 7th. There is bargaining going on over the weekend and many prayers are being said to avert this strike. Please make sure to stay tuned to the latest information regarding the strike via the WCDSB’s Board Website at the following address:

The website will be updated with any developments over the weekend so please stay tuned. On Friday, this message was shared with your children:

“Some of you may have already heard from your families or friends or from the news that there is a possibility of a strike affecting our school, beginning on Monday morning. If there is a strike, it means that some of our school staff will not be coming to work. We hope and pray that this will not happen – but if it does, it means our school will have to close until the strike is over, and you will not be able to come to school. We are doing our best to make sure your families have as much information about this situation as possible. They can keep up to date by visiting the school board’s website. If our school does have to close on Monday we hope it will only be closed for a short time and we can all be back together in our classrooms soon.”

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Once again we will be holding our Thanksgiving Food Drive. It will begin on October 1 and run through to Thanksgiving. It is important as a Catholic School Community to support our neighbours who are in need. Please consider giving generously to support this worthwhile initiative and remember to have a conversation with your child(ren) about all of the blessings in their lives. We are truly blessed.

The Umbrella Project Theme for October: Empathy

The new theme for the Umbrella Project for October is Empathy. This is defined as the ability to share and understand the feelings of another. This is an important skill for students to develop. Please see the attached article on how to help your child(ren) develop empathy.

Major School Fundraiser

Our major school fundraiser has moved! This year, our Spook A Thon will be on Thursday October 31st. The students and staff are excited about this move and looking forward to an spook-tacular day of dancing and spookiness! Please see the attached letter for information. Each student had a letter and pledge form that went home at the end of the week. We are hoping to raise money to help support some of the programs and initiatives that are offered to students here at St. Dominic, such as recess bins, field trips, our Gaga Ball Pit, and much much more. Our Catholic School Council is working feverishly putting this event together and are always looking for help in organizing this wonderful event. Please contact the office if you are interested in helping out in any way!

Parent Drop Off and Pick Up (Rebroadcast)

Thank you to our parent community for keeping our Kiss and Drop area a safe place for student pick-up and drop off.  Please have your child(ren) arrive at the school after supervision begins in the morning. In addition, when picking up your child(ren) in the back schoolyard, we are asking for all parents to remain on the path.  The safety of your child(ren) is our main concern. Furthermore, just an additional reminder that the school parking lot is now closed to parents and is marked closed with pylons and a school safety sign. This was necessitated by the need for more parking spots for our additional staff. Please use the visitor spots at the front of the lot or park on the street. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Student of the Month Assembly for September

Our Students of the Month for September were recognized on Thursday for their awesomeness in being good friends and welcoming ambassadors here at St. Dominic. The Umbrella Project Theme of the Month was also unveiled on Thursday afternoon. Empathy was officially released as the Theme for October through a fabulous skit from Mr. Setler and Mr. Runstedler explaining how important it is to “grow your umbrella.” We cannot wait to see how our Dragons excel at this Umbrella Skill this month!

Donations needed! Last Call!

We are looking for any gently used sports equipment that we can use on our yard during recess times.  We are looking for volleyballs, basketballs and/or soccer balls. If you would like to donate, please bring your items to the main office.  Thanks in advance for your support!
