Dragon Update: April 29-May 3

April 29-May 3

April Umbrella Theme

We continue to explore the Umbrella themes each month and students are starting to build their own personal umbrellas – being able to use various strategies to help them deal with struggles they may face in their lives.  Throughout the month of April, we will be exploring the theme of Intrinsic Motivation. Take a minute to read the attached article that can be found at the link below. It has some great activities for your children around Intrinsic Motivation.

Coming Soon

Our May Umbrella Theme will be Integrity. Stay Tuned!

Easter Liturgy

On Friday, our students had the opportunity to participate in our Easter Liturgy. We were challenged to rejoice in the Earth’s renewal, to always remember Jesus’ Easter Promises of Hope and Faith, and that we are Called to Belong. Thanks goes out to our Grade 4 readers and to the School Pastoral team for this great celebration.

Earth Day Assembly and Yard Cleanup

Our school Earth Day Assembly and Yard Beautification project was a hit. What a great opportunity for our school to hear Ms. Herzog’s important message about conservation and reducing our carbon footprint. We need to remember that we are all stewards of the earth and part of “its crew!”

Badminton Team

Congratulations goes out to the St. Dominic Intermediate Badminton team. The team competed in their tournament on Thursday and their performance did not disappoint. The team was successful in winning a number of medals and all team members had a great showing. ALl should be very proud of their efforts!

Earth Day Assembly and Yard Beautification Rescheduled

Due to the wet weather and soggy fields, we have rescheduled our Earth Day Assembly and Yard Beautification project until Thursday April 25th. Please make sure that your son or daughter brings their gardening gloves on Thursday if they intend on using them. Thanks and have a great day!

Jump Rope for Heart

Good afternoon Parents/Guardians,
Today your child attended St. Dominic’s annual kick off assembly for Jump Rope for Heart. Our Jump Rope for Heart event day is Friday, May 17th, 2019 (more information about our day will follow in a couple of weeks). Our school believes in kids helping kids. That’s why we’re participating in Jump Rope for Heart! We’re practicing healthy habits every day to protect our heart and brain health, and fundraising for Heart & Stroke to make a difference in the lives of other kids too. Please help us reach our school goal of $3000 by making a donation today. Your support will fund research and education that gives kids across Canada the best start to a healthy life.

Your child will come home with a parent letter (also see attached Jump rope for heart.jpg) and pledge envelope today. Follow the steps to start online fundraising right away.

Thank you for your support!

Ping Pong Club

We have started a Ping Pong Club here at St. Dominic and the Dragons love it! Thank you goes out to School Council for their support and generous donation of a table for the students to use! Lots of fun will be had by club members here at St. Dominic!

Stations of the Cross

On Thursday, our students had the opportunity to experience a Walk with Jesus in our school gym. This experience was created by our School Pastoral Team and the interactive activities were intended to help the students prepare themselves for the death and resurrection of Jesus. It was a great experience for them to be part of!

Earth Day Assembly and Yard Cleanup

Our school Earth Day Assembly and Yard Cleanup will take place at 1:00 pm in the gym. At 1:15 to 1:40, the school community  will go outside for the Yard Cleanup. Each class will be designated certain areas of the yard to clean. Students will be given a glove to use or they can bring some gardening gloves from home to use.  Refillable Water Bottles will be for sale during Earth Week: $4 each or $3 each when buying two or more. We will also be asking each classroom to “go off the grid” from 9:25 AM until recess. Finally, all students are asked to have a 100% litterless lunch on this day so minimal garbage is created and our carbon footprint is minimized.

Math Matters!

Can you solve this?

Try these 2 math riddles at home!

  1. The ages of a father and son add up to 66. The father’s age is the son’s age reversed. How old could they be?

  1. Using only addition, how can you add eight 8’s to get the number 1,000?
