Weekly Dragon Update March 4 – 8th

Congratulations!

Our school community is very proud of all of our students’ accomplishments over the last week. Our Concours Oratoire and Skills Canada teams represented St Dominic’s very well and achieved many individual and group awards. As well, our boys’ Intermediate Basketball team and girls’ Intermediate Volleyball Team have both qualified for the Championship Tournaments coming up this week. You continue to make us proud each and every day!

Dance-a-thon: The Dance-a-thon was a great event that was enjoyed by both students and staff. Our final tally is in. We are very fortunate and grateful to announce that we brought in $5026  with our net profit being in the area of $4000! Way to go Dragons! Thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers and student council for their leadership and support. Ice cream parties will be awarded to Mrs. Montes, Mrs. Kuntz/Rowe and Mrs. Johnson’s class for having the highest participation rate. As well, since our school exceeded the $3000 threshold in money raised our students have earned a board game afternoon which will take place on Friday, March 8th. Classes on trips (Gr. 3 Laurel Creek) will celebrate on Thursday.

Shrove Tuesday: Special Thank you to our parents who have volunteered to assist with Pancakes. Please note the schedule below.

Ash Wednesday

This Wednesday we start our Lenten journey with Father Steve joining us for our Ash Wednesday Liturgy.   Students will reflect on their Lenten promises and receive their ashes to remember the sacrifices made for us.  Our students will be encouraged to pray more, sacrifice more and give more over this Lenten season.

Bake Sale “Love One Another”  Bake Sale and Cake Raffle

We are excited to report that our “Love One Another”  Bake Sale and Cake Raffle” was a glowing success. Thank you to the families that made food donations (e.g. cookies, cupcakes, candy, chocolate and cake).  The amazing $425 money raised will support the “Free the Children” pillar of Health in Sierra Leone.

St. Dominic Savio Catholic School community  has always supported efforts to help individuals who are in need right here in our own community and in the world and we should be proud of our accomplishments in this regard.

March Umbrella Theme

We continue to explore the Umbrella themes each month and students are starting to build their own personal umbrellas – being able to use various strategies to help them deal with struggles they may face in their lives.  Throughout the month of March, we will be exploring the theme of Autonomy. Take a minute to read the attached article that can be found at the link below. It has some great activities for your children around Autonomy.
